About Our Artists

Susan Kang joined the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra as Principal Flute in 2022  She was previously the principal flutist of the Houston Ballet Orchestra and held an acting principal flute position with the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra.  She also frequently performs with the San Francisco Opera.

Ms. Kang has worked under the direction of Prominent conductors such as Thomas Ades, Stephane Deneve, Andris Nelsons, Gianandrea Noseda, and Klaus Makela.  She spent summers with fellowships at the Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Krzyzowa-Music in Poland, Tanglewood Music Center, and Verbier Festival in Switzerland.

Originally from outhern California, Susan Kang earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music, and a Master of Music degree and Artist Diploma at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.  Her principal teachers include Leone Buyse and John Thorne.
